LEC Grow Lights

What is LEC Lighting

LEC is an acronym that stands for Light Emitting Ceramic, also known as CMH which stands for Ceramic Metal Halogen. LEC lighting is essentially one of the most innovative types of grow lighting when it comes to growing cannabis indoors.

LEC Lighting Benefits for Indoor Growing

  • LEC grow lights produce infrared and ultraviolet rays that are similar to those of the sun, which is incredibly important when it comes to producing trichomes and terpenes.
  • They produce less heat, which means more terpenes and cannabinoids are conserved than with normal HPS lighting. The result is a more potent, delicious cannabis.
  • They produce a light spectrum that’s similar to the sun, so you’ll be able to see your plants’ real colour which can help you to identify issues and insect infestations. It’s incredibly important to use protective eyewear such as the Newlite Vision Protection HPS glasses that protect from IR and UV rays.
  • In as far as durability, LEC systems have an average lifespan of around 20 000 hours, more than HPS and fluorescent kits but less than LED systems.
  • LEC lights can provide the same results as HPS lighting while using less electricity and producing less heat.
  • LEC lighting produces about 1.5 – 1.8g per watt used, which is the most efficient type of lighting available.

High Quality LEC Grow Lights at the Best Price

A 315w LEC system can produce almost the same yield as a HPS 600w kit, while consuming practically half the electricity and producing less heat. You’ll make your money back in no time due to the amount of money you’ll be saving on your electric bill.

What Distance Should my LEC Lights be from my Plants?

The recommended distance to work with LEC lights is:

  • 315w LEC: 40cm during the veg period and 30cm during the bloom period.
  • 630w LEC: 50cm during the veg period and 40cm during the bloom period.

During the growth stage we recommend reducing the intensity of your lights using the ballast and then increasing it as they grow.

When flowering, the top of your plants shouldn’t be over 26°C. If necessary you need to increase the height of your LEC lights to reduce the temperature slightly.

Choosing a LEC Grow Light

First, you have to decide the wattage you want to work with.

  • Consider your available space.
  • Consider the amount of flowers that you would like to harvest.

A 315w LEC lighting system allows you to light a 120 x 120cm grow tent, where you can harvest between 450 – 575 grams.

A 630w LEC lighting system allows you to light a grow tent up to 150 x 150cm where you can harvest between 900 and 1150 grams.

What LEC Grow Light is Best?

You’ll need to make sure to use the right type of ballast with your grow light.

  • LEC 315w grow lights use a special LEC 315w socket.
  • LEC 630w grow lights use a double ended socket. This type of design removes any type of deformation that happens in the reflector due to extra weight, which means that it vastly improves reflective quality.
